Cocktail cabinets were very popular in the 1950s,60s and 70s when every home seemed to have or aspire to one.Since then they’ve been largely replaced by the wine fridge or cellar. Now however there seems to have been a resurgence.it’s always interesting  to speculate as to why a trend or item reappears and what it’s social implications are.In this case I think it’s simply a matter of fashion and our move away from visually austere aesthetics,maybe people are entertaining more at home more because of the recession - who knows ? Whatever the reason having a beautifully stocked bar or tray is very opulent decadent statement and when styled right can look good in any home.

Cocktail trays don’t need to be on a trolley - which tends to give them a retro vibe although for summer entertaining they’re great for taking outdoors .

They can be as simple as a lovely tray placed on a table or side board . A drinks tray can be mixed with your other favourite items such as books and photos . But whatever you do think about the feel of the overall look . Mix with flowers,plants and accessories to give a welcoming and inviting display for your guests or even  for yourself to cheer yourself up at the end of a long day .
